3 Ways to Combat the Stress & Chaos of Life So You Can Show Up and Kick Ass

Atomic Essay, Personal Growth, Wellbeing

Note: this post was originally written as an Atomic Essay as part of Ship 30 for 30 and posted on Twitter. I’ve copied the essay content here so it isn’t just lost in the endlessness of the Twitter feed. Enjoy!

Many of us have been spending even more time online than usual during the Ship 30 journey so I thought I would share what I’m doing this weekend to recharge, in case it’s helpful to anyone else.

😎 Fresh Air & Sunshine

I’m pretty sure I’m solar powered so I love to lay outside in the sun, feel the breeze (if there is one) and listen to the sounds around me.

Normally I aim for around 30-45 minutes, but I’m pretty sure I dozed off today so it may have been a bit longer.

I didn’t listen to music, read or anything else but just be. As an added bonus, it’s hotter than hell’s front porch so I got a good sweat detox in 👏

🧘🏼‍♀️ Slow Flow Yoga

I love yoga in general, but slow flow is my absolute favorite.

The slow pace makes me feel super relaxed and holding the poses for longer releases any tension I’m holding in my body. If you’re not super into yoga or you aren’t sure what poses to try, you can steal the basic structure of my go-to slow flow:

  • Mountain Pose
  • Standing Forward Bend
  • Downward Dog
  • Cat/Cow
  • Child’s Pose
  • Downward Dog
  • Low Lunge (I add an extra hip opener here)
  • Half Splits
  • Downward Dog
  • Pigeon Pose(I stay here for several minutes on each leg)
  • Downward Dog
  • Corpse Pose

🚿 Candlelit Shower

I know, I know this borders on cliché, but there is something really magical about it, I swear. The low light, the steam, and the water create an incredibly relaxing combination.

Something about the water flowing from over my head and then down the drain feels significant. Like the stress and chaos are just being rinsed away.

And now I’m ready to kick ass this week. You with me?
