How to Stop Mistreating Your Body
I spent so much of my life mistreating my body. I ate foods that made me feel sluggish, bloated and mentally foggy. I went long periods of time without working out. I talked negatively to myself and hated my reflection in the mirror.
On the outside I was overweight, had oily & blemished skin, was moody and irritable and probably seemed pretty miserable to everyone I encountered.
I constantly felt stressed, barely dragged myself through the day in a caffeine-induced blur and slept terribly (because of the massive amount of coffee, I'm sure!).
I didn't love myself enough to slow down and listen to what my body was really crying out for. And it landed me in bed with a nasty case of vertigo.
I was forced to lay in bed and rest. With the room spinning and your eyes bouncing around, you can't do anything but keep your head on the pillow with your eyes shut. It's miserable. And in my case, it was completely avoidable.
I'm fortunate that my vertigo isn't a constant in my life. In my more than a decade of bedside nursing, I treated patients with permanent health problems brought on by stress, overworking and poor health choices. It isn't pretty and it's nearly inevitable if you're not taking care of yourself.
I can vividly recall one day, when I had a particularly long vertigo episode (8+ hours this time), thinking there had to be something I could do to avoid being in this position again.
IN THAT MOMENT, I MADE A PROMISE TO MYSELF THAT I WOULD FIND A BETTER WAY TO LIVE.
And that's exactly what I did.
I didn't have any quick fixes or magic pills, but I slowed down, started listening to my body and learned how to treat it kindly. I experimented and learned everything I could get my hands on about creating new habits that supported me.
When I needed more help, I hired coaches who gave me the perfect combination of support and stretch, so I could weather all the change with grace (and with my sanity intact!). This alone was a game-changer for me.
From stress + burnout to calm + vibrant
My life now bears no resemblance to my previous life. I take great care of my body + my mind, protect my time fiercely, keep my stress level in check and have created routines and habits that make me a better woman, wife and mama.
If I hadn't been willing to invest in my own health + happiness, I know for sure I wouldn't be where I am today.

I want you to know - there is definitely a better way to live than suffering through the days. Small, consistent changes can make a huge difference in your health, stress and energy level.

No more surviving on massive amounts of caffeine, falling into bed completely exhausted only to do it all again the next day.
No more constantly giving to everyone, but never making yourself a priority.
No more wishing for more in your life, but never having enough time or energy to make it happen.
No more being "busy" all day long with absolutely nothing but exhaustion to show for it at the end of the day.
No. More. Suffering. Through. Life.
Instead of running on fumes and letting your habits keep you stuck & stressed, create a life that makes you more of the woman you want to be in the world.
Take some time to think about who that woman is and what she does. Then think about what daily actions you would need to take in order to move closer to being that woman.
It's really as simple as that. The key is to align your daily actions with your vision for your life. Big visions are great, but unless you're consistently taking action you'll never get where you want to go.
I know it sounds deceptively simple, but the implementation is where many women get tripped up. Habits are habits because they happen without us thinking about them. If you want to interrupt that cycle, you have to be consistently aware of your thoughts and actions.
I have faith that you can do it, but I also know how overwhelming it can be to think about making changes in your life. Especially when you need to make change in more than one area.
Listen, I get it. Change can feel hard, but if you focus on taking tiny steps in the right direction, you'll find they add up pretty quickly.
Small habits can serve as the catalyst for bigger changes. It works like this - as you notice the changes in your body, mood, mindset, etc. from implementing the first small habit, you'll start to build momentum so you can tackle other habits.
The key is to keep them small. Yes, it takes more time, but you're much more likely to create habits that stick when you make small changes over time.
